Me and my 2 co-workers went to the 5th round of the Formula Drift series at Evergreen Raceway in Monroe, Wa on August 9, 2008.

The pics I took weren't the best due to the fence, lack of a tele-lens and my first time using a DSLR (Nikon D40). The pic was taken at full zoom on the stock lens that came with it, 18-55mm.

thanks! now i plan to get a better lens with more zoom. it was a fun time there. especially during the morning where we were right at the fence as being pelted with tire rubber particles as they drifted pass by us. the taste of tire smoke and tire rubber. priceless. hahaha

a wider aperture telephoto-lens would be a big improvement.

    no close-ups of mulleted rednecks?

nope. didn't see any rednecks. but i'm sure they they'll show up during the destruction derby and oval track racing that takes place there. hehe

do they really have to drift in the race? i mean you can't win the race if you don't drift, is that it? anyone could beat these guys if you have traction control.

now a derby would be fun to watch along with rednecks in wife-beater hats. heheh

yup. drifting is more of show and control than your regular circuit racing. racer's try to get as close to the wall as they can and close to their opponent also if they can without making contact.

with regards to traction control, they use it more on a wet track than on a dry track. it's almost non-existent when they drift on a dry track. but then it varies from car to car and driver to driver with the traction control system.

but with most professional drift racers, they already came from other racing disciplines like grip, rally and drag racing.

haven't gone to a derby yet. i was hoping to go and watch some monster trucks first. :D

huwaw. the screeching and the smell of burnt rubber. will you be disqualified if you didn't drift? maybe it would look different irl, drift racing i mean.
