SLASHERS 1-4 of 8

Off guards and shooting guards play similarly, that’s why it’s hard to distinguish which is what. I’m basing the first eight players from their height. I could be wrong on how this turns out but among the players that slash and shoot, here are the biggest names.

MARK CAGUIOA: Whenever the Spark sees action, expect him a downpour of shots. Basing his numbers, he’ll likely claim the Mythical Team… until you see his games. It would be unfair for others if he gets a spot when he just played less than 75 percent of his team’s games. This could work though if he lifts Ginebra to the Finals. The Fiesta Cup has been sweet for Mr. Furious, especially since he was once the scoring leader despite the fact that this is an import laden conference.

PHILCUP STATS: 16.5ppg, 4.4rpg, 1.6apg , 0.8spg (11 games)
FIESCUP STATS: 23.1ppg, 4.6rpg, 2.6apg, 0.9spg (16 games as of July 15)

MAC CARDONA: After a great 2007 Fiesta Cup where he became the conference’s best player, Cardona had to endure the fact that he’ll play second fiddle to Renren Ritualo. During Derrick Pumaren’s reign, Cardona shared equal minutes with the Rain Man. That changed with Chot Reyes at the helm. Cardona became a focal point in scoring. However, just like Alapag, Talk N Text had two conferences that ended before the quarterfinal series. Those finishes don’t look good for Captain Hook’s chances.

PHILCUP STATS: 15.6ppg, 3.5rpg, 2.7apg (17 games)
FIESCUP STATS: 18.1ppg, 5.2rpg, 3.9apg, 0.9spg (20 games)

DONDON HONTIVEROS: Of course, this pick is ill-fated to NOT make the mythical selection. Hontiveros however, is one of the likely players that could shock some of the players listed. While he missed three games for the Masters midway in the Fiesta Conference, the ex-Cebu Gem is expected to play all out to lead the Masters to a respectable finish. In case you forgotten, Magnolia has one of the deepest rosters in the PBA today so if Hontiveros could dish out stellar games, then he could clinch a spot in the most stunning fashion. Though Lordy Tugade and Junthy Valenzuela could also be rightful contenders, it seems like Hontiveros could get the stats in better fashion than the Alaminos Assassin and the Hitman.

PHILCUP STATS: 12.1ppg, 4.6rpg, 3.3apg, 1.7spg, 0.8bpg (20 games)
FIESCUP STATS: 11.9ppg, 3.0rpg, 2.6apg, 1.1spg, 0.6bpg (16 games)

WILLIE MILLER: The Thriller played superb basketball throughout the 2007-08 Season. He was the clear constant in Tim Cone’s triangle offense, which was laxer to suit Miller’s style. Although he was Alaska’s Mr. Everything, the Aces failed to make past Sta. Lucia in the Philippine Cup semifinals and they were easily booted out in the Wildcard round. He ranked second in scoring in the Philippine Cup and placed third in the Fiesta Cup. It will be a shock if he does not make the Mythical Selection.

PHILCUP STATS: 22.2ppg, 5.0rpg, 5.0apg , 1.2spg (28 games)
FIESCUP STATS: 18.9ppg, 5.6rpg, 3.8apg, 1.0spg (18 games)

More on James Yap, Bitoy Omolon, Danny Seigle, and Cyrus Baguio later.

Until then, SURF PORN!

Ginebra needs to make it past Red Bull (And SLR of course) to assure them a 1-2 backcourt finish in the Mythical Team. If Ginebra fails to enter the Finals this year, tough luck for Mark, Cyrus Baguio's going to take it for consistency and games played alone. However, it would be a travesty if Jayjay fails to make the Mythical team this year.

Right now, if I'm to pick the Mythical team, I'd have Helterbrand, Baguio, Santos, Williams and Asi Taulava.

Ace: I think Gary David failed to play last conference, could be a factor why he isn't considered in the Mythical race.

here are Gary David's numbers. sure his scoring has returned but his games are too little to be even considered.

    PHILCUP STATS: 10.4ppg, 1.5rpg, 0.8apg (4 games)
    FIESCUP STATS: 14.1ppg, 1.9rpg, 1.9apg, (16 games)

even if he played in every game, the boards and dishes seems to be a serious issue.
