7 athletes
It's a final decision, there is no way to appeal. This means that Iraq will not take part in the coming Olympic games.
It is a blow to Iraq and its international reputation, its athletes and its youth.
"they phoned today and they were crying and were very upset." said Hussein al-Amidi, the general secretary of the Iraqi Olympic Committee
so sad.
In Iraq, it also smacked of the lingering sectarian bitterness between the new Shiite power brokers and the Sunnis who were once favored under Saddam Hussein — whose son, Odai, ran the nation’s Olympic committee as a personal fiefdom and was accused of torturing athletes who came up short.

^lol
its all over the net now
eh panalo rin sila sa suicide bombing.
I always feel bad about news like this. These athletes trained for years just to get a shot to compete, and all their dreams fail because of some silly bureaucracy. The Olympics happen every 4 years, so even missing one is a huge blow to an athlete.
they're victims of religion and politics. You'd think that since Shiites and Sunnis are both conservative muslim orders(or whatever name they call their organizations) that they would get along well. If only religion never existed. Oops, knowing human nature, if there were no religions men would still be fighting over something else. Oh well, so much for world peace.
the result of MAN being unjust to his own kind..
its everybody's fault really.. and ultimately resulting to this shameful act..
tsk..tsk..tsk..
poor people.. they are banned from an international sporting event..
the next phase is isolating Iraq and putting a big glass sphere around the country
just like in simpsons
the ban was lifted yesterday allowing four of the original seven athletes to compete.
