So I've finally started making enough to barely afford a car. I'm looking around and have a lot of other expenses weighing me down. I checked out Isuzu's D-Max promo, and they're slashing about 15,000php off the regular price tag with and a 20% downpayment of185,000php. The total price is about 925K and the monthly payments break down to 17K for five years.
My question is, what other alternatives should I be looking into? If the above deal sounds about right, then I'm all for it.
I'm too lazy to do any more research at the moment so if any of you know of other affordable options from first-hand experience, I'm all ears.

why would you consider buying a car with all the gas price hike and all?

@jots - thanks for the offer but I'm going for brand new models that are relatively affordable. If there is such a thing...

i think there are no brand new cars that are relatively affordable, only relatively expensive
and for a 925K Isuzu D-Max, that's a 4x2 not yet loaded car
pero tipid daw yan pagdating sa krudo

i've replaced my old korean car with a brand new civic (fuel efficient) last december. but because of the rising fuel cost, i'm on strike for a couple of weeks now. i only use it during the weekends and sometimes today because we have a basketball game later somewhere. hehehe. and the parking fee in makati is killing me.

personally, i was going for the Hyundai getz but the wife prefers something beefier and Diesel-based to save fuel and handle the shitty roads here (hence the D-Max).
i suppose i'll just have to save up for the downpayment at least, which hopefully will be within this year.

^trucks are gas-guzzlers! suzukis and isuzus are cheaper jap cars compered to hondas, toyotas and nissans. if it's mommy mobile you want, and price is out of the question, i'd suggest nissan murano, it's mommy mobile meets 007, lollerz! cant help you with the car quotes, mark if it's based there. kung dito sa US matutulungan kita coz i have a lot of friends who work in dealerships.

^hehe. Anyway, I've been hearing good things about the Suzuki APV. I know it's not much to look at (parang paa ni Voltes V) but pricewise parang ok naman siya. I don't know how it handles though or if ok ang maintenance. :D

hmm... you like trucks eh?...
other DMax alternatives.
Chevrolet Silverado 1500 1 - 2 M.
Ford Ranger - 0.8 - 1.2 M
Nissan Frontier Navarro - 1 -1. 3 M
Mitsubishi Strada - 0.9 -1.5M
Navarro na lang kung ako sayo. Pogi naman eh. Eh pwede ka din sa used cars. anlaki ng price slash. makakatipid ka.
Ayaw mo SUV?... madaming mura.

@stingray: thanks for the price quotes. unfortunately, my budget is limited to a maximum of around 650K, so I'll probably go with a sedan, such as a vios or lancer. I'd rather not get a honda because the parts are too expensive.

^he's still deciding between the APV and the Avanza.
He's kind of leaning towards a Toyota for the maintenance, reliability etc. Kaya lang ayaw niya raw na pagkamalang taxi. hehe. Marami kasing Avanza na ginagawang taxi ngayon. :D

i am also planning to hook up a brand new car but i'm kinda stuck between going for a Honda Jazz or for a Kia Sportage.. i like the Sportage for its looks as a 4x4, but others tell me to go for the jazz because it is more fuel efficient.. the price gap between the two is not that much since the Jazz i'm planning to buy is the one with the airbags and stuffs(around 800k) which is lightly similar to that of the Sportage(around 800k din)..
plano ko talaga ung bagong vitara kaso 1m na halos un e.. next time n lang siguro un.. hehehe
suggestions are deeply appreciated.. tnx

right now i own a hyundai getz and it is a decent car, fuel efficient. but if you have that budget, i say you get the avanza... it could give you more space for your baggages.
@lakerfan, i still need to test your new car. :D kelan ako pwede pumunta ulet sa inyo?

i'm really into the avanza but the prob is, my sister and my mom doesn't like it.. ginagamit na kasing taxi ung avanza kaya ayaw nila.. stuck na talaga kami dun sa Jazz at Sportage.. sabi nga ng dad ko ung multicab na owner-type na lang para makaka-sampu pa kaming ganun..

@JMG_UP: thanks for the suggestions...I myself would want a Getz but my wife feels it's a little underwhelming. She wanted the larger pickup trucks but then we have a budget to think about. So we're going with a sedan i guess.
@Stingray: my mom has an optra and has had nothing but complaints about it. she's using her warranty to fix multiple problems that are cropping up. The other optra owners i know have no problems with theirs, so maybe my mom just got a lemon. I don't want to take the chance myself, hehe.
i've long heard of rumors about suzuki's cars being prone to flipping over. any truth to that?
