I tried this software before, using version 0.9. I can say that this is an easy install social platform even for beginners. They even won infoworld's BOSSIE AWARDS as best open source social networking platform 2008.
Today, Aug. 18, 2008, they will be releasing the new generation elgg aka V1.0.
