This is supposed to be a reply for xmlwiz2k at this thread. The guy has a point.

Filipinos are so achievement conscious abroad because we have so little to celebrate here our own land. Philippine media always ahev a way of finding a Half-Filipino achiever abroad and ride with them.

Take for example the case of BATISTA. After Pinoys found that he is half Filipino, They cheered, "Pinoy si batista.. woohoo"... ei, having a Philippine Flag Tattooed on his arm doesn't mean he is a Filipino... He's not! the breading is purely western.

Another one is Dennis Rodman... Man that guy is so American... And yet, since one of his parents is Filipino, we cheered! "Pinoy si Dennis". That makes us look dumber even more.

I tell you this, if there's someone that is legit to celebrate with, it's Manny and Efren and Lani.

We are only fooling ourselves, believing that Half-Filipino achievers are Filipino achievers abroad. Come on they are not living here in our beautiful country and they are not spending money and paying Filipino taxes like we do... Now, How can they be Filipinos. Don't be fooled when they say, "I really love adobo..." They all love adobo because maybe, that's the only one they know.
Yes we may say. Eh, kasi, Mababaw lang ang kaligayahan ng mga Pinoy. Well, that is not always a good thing.

yes they maybe half Filipino's but a least they have the pride to admit there heritage. What I hate the most are those who say , oh im Spanish or im Hawaiian or those who spend a few weeks or years overseas and come back to the Philippines acting as if they have forgotten there native tongue. makes me f*ckin sick.

    ^ yah, hate them too.
There, are millions of Filipinos around the world and you don't want to loose their support right? It is easy to say that "Yes, I love Filipinos!" in Batista's case and maybe with the others too. He rather embrace Pinoys than to loose millions of fans and millions of dollars of bonus each time he step foot on the ring especially on his Manila Match. It is all about PR.

Ano na ba ang qualifications ng 100% pinoy ngayon? Kung si Lisa Leslie at si Michael Jordan ay nagkaroon ng anak, and they gave birth to the baby in the Philippines, considered ba yan na Pinoy?

It's not an issue of race. It's an issue of opportunities and of attitude. Kaya nga achiever ang mga half flip kasi due to the oppurtunities they have available. Would you think they would have the same accomplishments kung homegrown sila:?

What we lack is HOMEGROWN talent.

As for the deniers of heritage, they're just too friggin insecure and still think that everything is dependent on racial heritage. Bumabalik lang naman sila sa pilipinas para magpapansin sa mga taong katulad nila.

most are just proud of the ethnicity part. what with the most SoCal pinoys claiming to be hapa, yes, sometimes ethnicity can be trendy. lollers. kakatawa nga sa TFC when half-pinoys are claiming to be proud of their "heritage" then go on how they like adobo, puto, sinigang, etc. did our "heritage" just got nerfed to food? i think they are proud of the "ethnic background" and the culinary delights.

as for us, we are very associative by nature, i mean, did the china or the chinese claim and celebrate michelle kwan's achievement on the ice before? on the other hand we're proud of that pinoy chef in the white house, "uy pinoy ang executive kusinero sa whitehouse." taena naman o, amerkano yon, kaya nga pinagpalit ang sitisensyip.

kung di half-caucasian si batista, lalaki kaya kaha nya ng ganun? sa bodyframe pa lang kasing pinoy na ni manong jots. lol.

teka bakit yung batang charice pempengco, iisa lang ang style? whitneeehhhh

Especially the one from the pussycat dolls. So she's partly Filipino, big fucking deal. It's not like she actually cares about the country.

    Kasalanan ng ABS CBN yan.

    Flip pride represent! Aight?!!

If you are a legitimate artist, performer, athlete, etc... you do not bank on where you came from. you do not bank on your race or heritage. YOU LET YOUR ACCOMPLISHMENTS DO THE TALKING.

That's the way to inspire and help the Filipino Masses, if that really is your intention.

there's no such thing as half-filipino achievers, IMHO. i mean if they are sporting american citizenship, then they are american achievers. you can't brag that you are a half-filipino achiever if you're not paying philippine taxes for fucks sake! the true achievers are those OFWs killing themselves by working abroad just to support their family here

everytime i hear a balikbayan or mongrel-bred showbiz personality in the news coming back in the philippines to promote something, like a new album or a new placement in some obscure ad or tv show abroad, they give that person good media mileage. imported na kasi.

eto pa, pag may accomplishment ka kasi dito, the media don't even want to take notice of you. kahit sobrang gasgas na ang mukha mo sa youtube. pero pag na-feature ka na sa Oprah, aba big-time!

i think it's the way we perceive ourselves that we are not good enough unless we get some outside attention. kailangan laging may ma-associate na foreign counterpart sa isang local aspiring talent/celebrity/athlete para sumikat.

regarding scientific/engineering research, it's really the most under-appreciated skill here in the philippines. under-appreciated na, underpaid pa. letse! kaya kung makakuha ka ng offer sa USAID, UN or ADB kagatin mo na,

There are a lot of full-blooded homegrown Filipinos here, a 36-yr old senior scientist in CERN, various directorships in int'l orgs, a banking wiz kid and more. Nobody paid attention to them. But when we had Arlyne Copa nearly winning the Miss Switzerland years ago and Marianne de Cocatrix winning the Miss Suisse Romand, all hell broke loose in the Filipino communites in every canton (state) around the country. Both are mixed-breed. I still giggle when I read her surname, an 18th-century slang for fellatrix. Lolsies.

Then came Lica de Guzman who quite had a local following and appearing in national channels (Switzerland, France, etc), the Filipino enthusiasm lasted for awhile. ABS-CBN wanted to "contract" her, but the little girl just wouldn't give up her studies as yet. This video is Lica not in full form, still it made Lara Fabian's jaw drop a bit.

I still don't get it why we fete those in the entertainment biz than those who are not monetarily high up but academically sound and professionally successful in their fields.
