I think Kelly Williams is on the first track but unluckly Ginebra beat them. Will Arwind Santos be the MVP???
This is the second part of the SG/SF series. By this time you have your bets on making your choice but are you really sure they played more than enough to clinch the citation?
Game starts now.
JAMES YAP: Forget the kick that shocked the nation. Forget the marital quarrel that ignited the nation. But most of all, forget a MVP repeat… because it will never happen this season. Sure Yap fans would get pissed but Purefoods made the Finals once and didn’t win the championship. Stat-wise, Yap is behind teammate Kerby Raymundo (Kerby has high rebounds and assists compared to Yap). And also, Purefoods failed to make it past the Wildcard. While he is still in the running for the Mythical Team, the Philippine Cup leading scorer won’t get the MVP nod.
PHILCUP STATS: 22.8ppg, 3.6rpg, 1.4apg (31 games)
FIESCUP STATS: 18.9ppg, 4.7rpg, 1.8apg, 1.0spg (19 games)
DANNY SEIGLE: Still dangerous… still explosive… but still injury-plagued. This pretty much sums up the career of Danny Seigle. Until now we consider him the MVP over Danny Ildefonso’s plums if he participated in more games. This season while Seigle just missed one game for the Masters in the Philippine Cup, the Dynamite missed six games in the Fiesta Cup. If Magnolia breaks in to the Finals due to his strong performance, he’ll clearly upset the other contenders. He could clinch the Second Team but he won’t make the Mythical 5.
PHILCUP STATS: 18.7ppg, 8.0rpg, 1.1apg, 0.7bpg (19 games)
FIESCUP STATS: 14.2ppg, 6.1rpg, 1.6apg, (13 games as of July 15)
BITOY OMOLON: One of the consensus contenders for the Most Improved Player Award. Ever since Boyet Fernandez took coaching reins, the former PCU forward has been playing inspired ball. His game took off this conference and while he usually starts slow in both conferences, he explodes toward the end which makes him a force to be reckoned with come Playoff time. Since Sta. Lucia won a championship and they are still in the thick of things, a semifinal showing should shock people into why he clinched a Second Team spot.
PHILCUP STATS: 13.1ppg, 5.8rpg, 0.8apg, 1.2spg, 0.8bpg (32 games)
FIESCUP STATS: 11.2ppg, 4.6rpg, 0.8apg, 1.1spg (21 games as of July 15)
CYRUS BAGUIO: Someone gains from what others lost. This has been the story of Cyrus Baguio after the exodus of Rico Villanueva, Larry Fonacier, Lordy Tugade, and Junthy Valenzuela. Playing second fiddle for the longest time, Baguio got the nod from Yeng Guiao, a coach that loves to create something out of nothing. He still needs a leader on the floor though, and Sky-rus stepped up to the challenge. Gone are the days where he is merely a slam dunk side show attraction. With Red Bull getting twin semifinal finishes this season (with a possibility of making the Finals of the Fiesta Cup), people are seeing that Baguio is a darkhorse bet to claim the MVP award. He just needs to produce consistency in his games… which has been his forte as of late.
PHILCUP STATS: 18.1ppg, 3.9rpg, 4.1apg, 1.2spg, 0.6bpg (25 games)
FIESCUP STATS: 18.2ppg, 3.4rpg, 3.5apg, 1.0spg (18 games as of July 15)
Again, what’s not concrete is the big man spots. Since imports play the center spot most players are displaced from their positions. So the next thread will include 8 of the players in contention for the Mythical Team.
Until then, SURF PORN!
