i went to the docks unaccompanied today and saw the aid ships, the huge UN barracks and the bustle of life beyond where i was confined. i found an internet café that was swarming (of all things) with flies, i'll leave as soon as i finish this mail, they keep landing on my lips. pweh. i could smell fried bananas from here. people are quite friendly and warm. they seem to be carefree like most of us pinoys.
i learned from someone that dada was crossing into sierra leone and ivory coast and for some reason his superiors in NY did not find amusing. i am learning a lot about the nature of his work now and the simple humanity of what he wanted us siblings to be aware of, but right now i am worried that i would not be able to make my required papers for the uni. i have emailed prof de melo about this problem of not being able to move around or get into research mode or facilities for that matter. i like that he told me to forget about it until i came back. he's very well respected by the world bank for his political economics but still treated me like a deserving student without academic snobbery. so how's your studies ate? does anyone really know practicality in your school? hahaha
oh yesterday, i had buko juice from the bangladeshi bluehats. one thing i noticed was that some of them were darker than the natives here, so dark they are almost blue and their moustache makes me lol for some reason. i try to cheer myself up here, i just don't know how dada managed to live a portion of his life like this. remember afghanistan and the balkans? i heard him tell me for the nth time again, "you don't really have to come here (i think he meant places like this) to see the hard realities, the difference is that i chose to do so." goddamn, mom hated that line. lollers.
