Hey everyone. Mayhap you've noticed the Highfiber blog widget sitting on my personal blog since Tuesday. I've run it for the past 48 hours and haven't noticed any big issues so I thought I'd offer it up to anybody interested to give it a spin.
You'll need a couple of things to get started:
1. A blog that you can edit the template of, i.e., to add a line of javascript.
2. A tiny bit of HTML knowledge, just so you don't totally fuck up your blog and then blame me for it.
3. That's it, actually. All you have to do is copy the snippet below and paste it wherever you want within your blog template (it works better on sidebars, because of the vertical orientation):
<script language="Javascript" src="http://highfiber.org/users/luis/widgets.js"></script>
Obviously you will need to change the exact URL, otherwise it will load up MY content instead of yours. That's the bit that goes:
http://highfiber.org/users/luis/widgets.js
You would just need to take replace "luis" with whatever your highfiber login name is. And that's it! It should work immediately, unless you got your username wrong. (Because I write perfect code of course, and nothing every breaks.)
The widget itself is pretty simple. It's just a real-time minified version of your personal user page on highfiber. I haven't had time to really add any customizable bits to it yet, but as it stands right now, this will be useful for those of you who cross-post content on both your blog and on our forums.
If you've got the widget installed already, leave a comment here with a link to your blog so I can check it out. It'd be really helpful to see it on a variety of different layouts so I know what to fix or improve.
Thanks guys!

a query: all i see are the codes inside the window man, not the actual widget. does my browser have anything to do with this? i'm using safari on MAC at work.

Has anybody tried opening their blogs with the widget on IE? Chelsea told me that everytime she opens her blog using IE, a download page pops up saying you are downloading this widget from highfiber.org
So I decided to check it out using my IE (Since I'm using MF everyday) and yes, the download page pops up to. Anybody experiencing the same problem?

Ok, I've resolved the issue. Seems to work on my blog, but let me know if anyone else still gets that "file download" alert. (Don't forget that you may need to do a hard-refresh before you get the new code.)

@darthjesus -- LJ probably doesn't allow javascript to be added to its templates. I might look at making a Flash widget in the future, but for now I need to focus on making this javascript-based one customizable.

great work luis.
yeah, being able to control the shape size and colors, even just for the borders, would help in integrating the widget into a blog.
but all in all, it's a great wittle widgy pidgy, considering that it worked right out of the box.
